Dryclone® air drying systems
With ever-increasing pressure to divert municipal solid waste from landfill, especially organics, and the impending reduction in the Chinese market for lower-grade recyclables, the focus on viable waste-to-energy solutions will increase. Reducing the moisture content of the waste stream is a key factor in creating economically viable and environmentally sustainable waste-to-energy solutions. High-quality solid recovered fuel (SRF) will be needed to increase efficiency and reduce emissions in incineration, and to unlock the true potential of emerging gasification and pyrolysis systems.
The revolutionary Dryclone® air drying systems meet the need for highest-quality SRF, including wet organics. Using only large quantities of air at very high speeds, Dryclone dries large volumes of waste materials quickly and efficiently. This superior drying performance, coupled with its unique pulverizing and blending action, optimizes all waste materials for energy recovery. It also eliminates issues commonly found with conventional gas dryers such as low efficiency, inconsistent dryness and energy content of dried materials, mechanical complexity, high operating costs, and a tendency to catch fire.
Another unique feature of Dryclone is its ability to shear open cell structures and remove the internal moisture of all cellular materials. This solves the organic waste separation and disposal problem once and for all. There’s no need to remove wet organics from commingled MSW to make SRF at well below 15% moisture content. Only metals and inerts need to be removed for Dryclone to create SRF with the optimum blend of consistent dryness and energy density.
Even if there’s no waste-to-energy solution in place today, Dryclone allows you to create high-quality SRF that’s so low in moisture that it can be baled, wrapped and stored indefinitely until your WTE solution is in place. Alternatively the SRF can be shipped to users at much lower costs than conventional higher-moisture content refuse-derived fuel (RDF) or mixed residual waste.
Dryclone is also an ideal solution for drying sewage sludge, creating a product with sub 15% moisture content, high energy and high nutrient content, for use in the energy or nutrient sectors. As with SRF, the storage, transportation and disposal costs are significantly reduced compared to wet sludge, and the challenges of seasonal variations in demand for wet sludge are overcome.
